I thought i'd try an alternative approach to express the connection tattooing can have with a classical art form. I scanned several images from a book called "Man and the Renaissance", which I then painted over the scanned image using watercolour. I thought it would be an interesting approach, since i want to express sculpture tattoos on actual people, rather than tattoos on sculpture.
I like the idea, i just dont see how far i can really go with this, i find that the images i scan are quite difficult to paint over and to get detail in there, since the image has a grain effect its hard to pencil designs in to paint over. I think it'd be better for me to draw similar images and then draw the tattoo designs on. It will allow me to alter light and contrast to really make it look like there is a tattoo on the sculpture not just a painting.
